I respect other party’s copyrights. Therefore I take great care to ensure that when I choose to use outside content that it falls into one of the four following categories:

Creative Commons and Similar Licenses

The Tree Topper makes use of content (e.g. text and photos) licensed under the following, or similar, licenses:

Fair Use

The Tree Topper makes use of copyrighted material used under Fair Use. Fair use is a doctrine that permits limited use of copyrighted material without acquiring permission from the rights holders. Examples of fair use include commentary, criticism, news reporting, research, teaching, library archiving and scholarship.


The Tree Topper licenses content from content owners. This may include leasing exclusive or non-exclusive content and outright purchase of content ownership.

Public Domain

The Tree Topper makes us of content that falls into the public domain. The public domain refers to works whose intellectual property rights have expired, been forfeited, or are inapplicable.

Reporting Infringing Material/ Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) Takedown Notices

With the proliferation and replication of content on the Internet, The Tree Topper acquires external content on good faith from those providing access to the content (e.g. Flickr accounts). In some cases these parties, unbeknownst to The Tree Topper, may not have ownership of the content they present.
